
The Puzzle
A mother whose three children (10, 7, 5 years old), all with similar learning disabilities, is frustrated with the public school's inability to provide the academic support promised. Her two oldest sons are increasingly resistant and unresponsive to her help and to their school work. The parent calls TM to find a tutor or tutors.
The Missing Pieces
TM discusses and clarifies the parents' and students' goals. Then, using our website, we contact all of our special education tutors in Fairfield County. We provide the mother with a list of tutors; she selects, interviews and chooses two who meet with her children on a weekly basis.
The Perfect Fit
Within a few months both boys respond to the tutorials and show marked improvement in school. Because of the tutors' insights and advice, the daughter transfers to a school that addressed her needs. Eventually the boys make the honor roll. Confrontations concerning school matters and academic problems disappear. The mother's relationships with her children improve dramatically. The oldest son eventually attends the University of Chicago on a scholarship and majors in physics and chemistry.

A 10th grade honor roll student is anxious about test-taking. With the SATs looming, her parents decide to seek help outside of school. Her father is concerned about the coss of college tuitions and of hiring a tutor so he contacts TM to help prepare her daughter for the PSAT and SATs.

TM discusses and clarifies the parents' and daughter's goals. Then the parents conduct a tutor search on our website for a tutor who best meets their daughter's needs. They request bids from a number of tutors whose profiles, availability and fee ranges meet their needs. They choose one of the tutors to meet with their daughter on a weekly basis.
The Perfect Fit
She improves 100 +/- points in each of the verbal, math and writing portions of the test. The father invests $900 and his daughter subsequently qualifies for a $15,000 scholarship at a prestigious university. An even bigger bonus: the daughter's skills, confidence and self-esteem improve.

A mother requests an Orton Gillingham-trained reading tutor for her 10-year-old daughter for summer study while the family spends the summer in Greece. The daughter has trouble decoding words. The mother wants her daughter to read more easily by the time she enters 6th grade.

TM discusses and clarifies the mother's and daughter's goals. TM creates a profile of the student, and sends a request to its network of reading instructors. Three interested tutors respond, but not one is ultimately able to coordinate her schedule to meet the commitment. Using our network of resources, we locate two other reading specialists who TM interviews and screens....and then refers one to tutor the child.
The Perfect Fit
The parents and the daughter love the tutor who is able to help the child for 6 weeks in Padras, Greece. Upon her return to the states, the daughter has more confidence reading and makes a successful transition into 6th grade.
